The Attorney Grievance Commission has filed charges against three attorneys connected with lemon-law firm Kimmel & Silverman P.C. Since the Ambler, Pa.-based consumer protection firm opened a Maryland office three years ago, it has seen several cases dismissed for failure of discovery, its then-sole Maryland lawyer depart in 2005, and two federal court opinions criticizing the firm’s use of expert witnesses. Now, partners Craig Kimmel and Robert Silverman, along with the lawyer who left in 2005, Robyn Glassman Katz, are facing possible sanction. A federal judge in Baltimore has ruled against lemon-law giant Kimmel & Silverman in a suit that automaker defense lawyers hope will doom the firm's hundreds of other Maryland cases, too. Judge Richard D. Bennett granted summary judgment to General Motors Corp., holding that the testimony of Kimmel & Silverman's expert mechanic was insufficient to support the claims of a man who said his Chevrolet Corvette was defective.
