Over the past 26 years Bang’s hard-edged tone, soulful sense of traditional swing and evocatively expressive style has enhanced over two dozen albums by top names in a variety of genres, from the blistering funk of Bootsy Collins and the harmolodic groove of Ronald Shannon Jackson’s Decoding Society to the intergalactic uproar of Sun Ra. (http://www.justin-time.com/authors/billybang/) Abbey Rader: A powerful and relentless searcher for the union of spirit and body in his interpretations of rhythm and melody, Abbey Rader was raised in the Bronx and influenced by swing, bop, and free improv that were prevalent in his upbringing. Abbey lived in Europe in the late seventies and all through the eighties, where he performed with John Handy and Dr L. Subramaniam, the Gunter Hampel Big Band and Trio, and with Mal Waldron in quartet and trio. He also had his own band, the “Right Time". Most recently Mr. Rader is working and recording in duo with Billy Bang, and in duo with David Liebman. He has been leading his own groups, the Otic Band, and Lemon Law Arbitration, for the past two years. These groups focus on his compositions and collective improvisations, and they have performed on a semiresidential basis at CBGBs Lounge. He has also performed under the leadership of Billy Bang, William Parker, Butch Morris, and Ras Moshe, among others. 1106 Reads |

Before you buy, check out used car.
Sep. 17--Five months ago, Mary G. Greene of Raleigh bought a used 2001 Chevy Malibu. Since then, she said, the car has broken down so many times that she has exhausted her "four free tows a year offer" from AAA. Greene is worried that she paid $8,000 for a lemon. After listening to her, I had one question: Did she have the car checked by a mechanic before she bought it? "I didn't," Greene said, "but you bet that the next time, I will." Greene certainly isn't the first person to buy a used car without having it inspected by
State agency making changes.
Duane Waddill was head of the Texas Residential Construction Commission just four days when he learned the state agency often criticized by consumer groups was about to be audited. But Waddill said he was already implementing changes that addressed some of the state comptroller's questions -- changes he believed would quell consumer concerns that the agency doesn't do enough to protect homeowners. "It was unexpected to me," Waddill said, referring to the review that was prompted by a request from state Rep. Todd Smith, R-Euless. "I did visit with Rep. Smith after we were well into the process and I

Governor’s re-election may hinge on special vote
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's move toward a special election this fall is more than just a bid for "reform" -- it's also a high-stakes bet on his re-election. "It's going to be like having the 2006 election a year early, because if we're able to push through all of this stuff -- either through negotiations with the Legislature or through the election outright -- he's going to be golden,'' said one Team Arnold adviser. "And if we don't -- well, then, chances are we wouldn't have been able to get them through the second term anyway,'' the operative said. No one
