Apr. 4–Milwaukee County Supervisor Ryan McCue grabbed 60% of the vote in the Cudahy mayoral election, easily defeating incumbent John Hohenfeldt. In other county races, Milwaukee Circuit Judge William S. Pocan narrowly defeated Christopher A. Liegel, and Phil Chavez won the race for Milwaukee municipal judge. Cudahy was the only Milwaukee County community where the top elected official faced a challenger. McCue will resign his County Board seat to begin the three-year term as mayor. State Rep. Ted Harhai quickly rattles off the major issues he'd like to tackle if he wins a fifth term: property taxes, funding for senior citizen programs, improvements in education. Sheldon confronts Crist in new arena
George Sheldon is gearing for a rematch with Charlie Crist. But instead of battling for education commissioner, the two will fight to replace Attorney General Bob Butterworth, who is being forced out after 16 years because of term limits. Sheldon, a deputy attorney general and a former lawmaker from Tampa, announced Monday that he is seeking the Democratic nomination to replace his boss. Crist beat Sheldon in the 2000 election for education commissioner, which ceases to be an elected position after this year. Sheldon is the second Democrat in the past week to launch a bid for attorney general.
