For years, Stuart Bluestone says, he has been in the background working on behalf of the elderly, the poor, those brutalized by crime and those bamboozled by fraud. Now, he says, it’s time to step out in front and push more aggressively those issues he says will help the public even more. He wants to be what he calls “the people’s lawyer.” And he hopes to do so as the state’s next attorney general. Bluestone, of Santa Fe, is one of four Democrats in the June 2 primary election for that position, which is being vacated by Tom Udall, who is running for Congress. Trouble is, folks who toil behind the scenes can have trouble getting their names out front. “I’m not exactly a household name,” he admits. |

Suit seeks end to mileage charges on ’lemon’ autos.
If your new car's a lemon, should you pay for mileage while you try to get it replaced? The answer is currently 'yes' in Ohio. Some consumers want that practice changed. In a lawsuit filed Sept. 13 as a class action in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, the consumers want automakers to stop deducting mileage from refunds they give car buyers for defective vehicles. The deduction practice has been tacitly endorsed by the state Attorney General's Office since Ohio's lemon law went into...
Landlord, tenant issues plague Delaware residents, state report says.
Landlord and tenant problems irritate consumers the most in Delaware. Nationally, it's problems with autos and car rental agencies. The state attorney general's office on Tuesday released the Delaware and national top 10 lists of consumer complaints for 2005. "The majority of the calls to our consumer hotline have to do with landlord/tenant issues," said Barbara Gadbois, director of consumer protection for the state attorney general's office. Out of the 18,000 to 20,000 complaints people made last year to...

Only last August, Chrysler announced that it would pay more than $16 million to 38,600 people across the U.S. whose "brand-new" cars had in fact sometimes been test-driven hundreds of miles with the odometers disconnected. Now investigators have discovered that the giant automaker sold, bought back and then resold 392 defective cars in New York without telling their new owners about their mechanically troubled past. Under the state's so-called lemon law, automakers must notify the department of motor vehicles as well as any future buyers when they repurchase flawed automobiles. Chrysler, which blames the mix-up on human error, agreed last week

Swing by Vince Megna's neighborhood this week, and you may see his brand-new 2006 Corvette Coupe looking pretty in the driveway. Check out the "velocity yellow" exterior and ebony leather interior. The 400-hp LS2 6.0-liter V8 engine tops out at 186 mph and runs a zero to 60 in 4.2 seconds. Zoom zoom! Underneath, this baby packs a six-speed paddle-shift transmission with automatic modes. And inside it sports a Bose premium seven-speaker system, XM radio, MP3 playback, DVD navigation with color display touch screen and voice recognition. All that's just car talk for one sweet machine. But, then, what would you
